Embry-Riddle Hosts sUAS Challenge at Oshkosh 2015

OSH2015-Aviation-Gateway-Park620xThe sUAS Challenge is open to participants ages 10 and up, with a maximum of 15 competitors each day registered on a first-come, first-served basis. Each day’s challenge will be held separately at the drone cage at Aviation Gateway Park, beginning with an afternoon operators’ meeting followed by competition from 3p.m. to 5p.m. There will be qualification flying followed by an elimination bracket for the final four competitors each day.

Pilots launch drone school in UK as accidents surge

drone-training-1200US pilots have reported 650 close calls with drones this year while in the UK there have been seven near-misses between planes and drones in the past year.

A strong technical, theoretical and practical understanding is the goal of the courses. Students are taught theory and flight assessment standards necessary to fly drones commercially in the UK.

Drones survey Medieval Irish Sites

loughkeyArchaeologists have appreciated what aerial photography can accomplish for as long as the ability has existed.

“In 2013-14, we identified what we believe to be a major medieval Gaelic settlement in proximity to the Rock of Lough Key, a stunning island fortification, this year, we focused our attention on some lesser known sites in the area, including a ringfort that shows great promise for medieval settlement and what appears to be a major settlement in association with the parish church at Kilbrian.”

Drone training for First Responders.

glossary-qube-uav2015 Memorial Day weekend flooding in parts of Texas claimed more than two dozen lives. It’s prompted a closer look at how emergency responders can better deal with high-water issues, flood recovery and evolving technology, such as drones.

Drone technology will be part of a Texas A&M University seminar for emergency responders.
